Ever since the film hit theatres, conversations have swirled around Janhvi Kapoor’s scenes, costumes, screen presence, and camera framing. Yet instead of slowing the film’s momentum, the debate appears to have poured oil on the fire, as box-office numbers suggest audiences have continued to turn out in large numbers, helping the sports-action drama movie race ahead despite the noise surrounding it. What remains beyond dispute, however, is that the actor, daughter of the late Sridevi, walked away with a substantial paycheck for her role in the project.
Janhvi Kapoor only got 6% compared to Ram Charan’s fee
While the debate continues online, the cash registers have been ringing without pause. Released on June 4, 2026, Peddi has put together a run that has caught the industry’s attention. On Sunday alone, the film collected Rs 31.90 crore across 9,068 shows.
That came after earnings of Rs 26.90 crore on Friday and Rs 28.85 crore on Saturday. With those numbers in the bag, the film’s India gross has climbed to Rs 187.02 crore, while its India net collection stands at Rs 157.15 crore. According to the makers, the worldwide gross has now reached Rs 292.5 crore.
The revenue figures have also brought renewed attention to the compensation received by the film’s cast. According to reports published by Glute, lead actor Ram Charan received Rs 100 crore for Peddi.
By comparison, his co-star Janhvi Kapoor is reported to have earned between Rs 5 crore and Rs 6 crore for her role. Kapoor’s fee amounted to roughly six percent of what Ram Charan reportedly took home.
A comparison of her fee across Tollywood and Bollywood films
Despite appearing in a succession of Hindi films, Janhvi Kapoor is still searching for a box-office breakthrough on the scale many expected. Her fortunes, however, took a different turn in Telugu cinema.
Her debut opposite Jr NTR in Devara opened the door to a new market and placed her name on the radar of producers across the South. Since then, offers have reportedly arrived one after another, allowing her to expand her footprint across both Hindi and Telugu cinema. Her earnings have climbed alongside that expansion.
Reports suggest Kapoor received Rs 5 crore for Devara, which represented the highest fee of her career at that point. For Peddi, she is said to have increased her remuneration by another Rs 1 crore. Now, industry chatter in Tollywood suggests that she has sought Rs 7 crore for a project reportedly being planned with Allu Arjun and director Atlee.
Interestingly, her compensation in Bollywood has not differed dramatically from what she earns in the South. For Ulajh, released in 2024, media reports indicated that Kapoor received approximately Rs 5 crore for portraying an IFS officer in the thriller. Before that, reports claimed she earned Rs 5 crore for Mr. & Mrs. Mahi, in which she appeared alongside Rajkummar Rao.
The gap between her Hindi and Telugu paychecks is not particularly wide. What has generated discussion instead is the nature of the roles themselves.
Some critics and social media users have argued that her recent Telugu projects have focused more on her screen presence than on providing powerful character arcs. Supporters, meanwhile, contend that such assessments overlook the broader commercial demands of large-scale entertainers.
Meanwhile, the road ahead may prove just as compelling as the debate surrounding Peddi. Kapoor has now parted ways with the talent agency associated with Karan Johar, her mentor since the beginning of her career.
At the same time, her decision to engage with social media posts criticizing her role in Peddi, coupled with ongoing discussion about efforts to distance her from the backlash surrounding the film, has kept her firmly in the public eye and Tollywood directors’ radar.
Controversy surrounding Janhvi Kapoor, Peddi, and her leaked chats
Janhvi Kapoor has found herself caught between public perception and online speculation. In recent weeks, Kapoor appeared to distance herself from parts of the discourse after liking a social media post that criticized Peddi for pushing her character to the sidelines and portraying her largely through the lens of male desire.
The move raised eyebrows because, during the film’s promotional campaign, she had publicly credited director Buchi Babu for helping her break out of her shell and embrace her character.
The situation got even more serious when alleged chat leaks began making the rounds on social media. According to the screen recording being circulated online, Kapoor had voiced objections to certain scenes during the post-production stage. The authenticity of those chats remains unverified.
